"Requiem aeternam" Poco Allegretto from Symphony No.3

Since 20th century composers seemed to show interest in a cappella choral music. In the 1960s, however, Ligeti's "Lux aeterna" opened up entirely new perspectives for choral music. By applying this new technique of writing for voices to works from the classical eras these "transcriptions" ultimately also make contemporary choral music more accessible to us.

Hideki CHIHARA's new attempt "Hideki Chihara Choral Transcriptions" series, which is based on classic masterpieces, has now emerged.

"Transcriptions" are different from "arrangements". Arrangement plays the role of "compounding" and "dramatization", while transcription has the meaning of "transferring". In other words, arrangement develops a new fun approach for the original song; meanwhile, transcription has its own original character. We can even say that transcription is a new composition. In this point of view, we call the new series from the composer Hideki CHIHARA "Choral Transcriptions". Six works were transferred from the famous symphonies into a cappella works.
While daily news reports tragic incidents, conflicts, disasters etc., the composer wants singing voices to be wrapped with love in prayer. Latin text gives mystic atmosphere. Human voices directly replace instrumental parts; therefore, the range of pitches and the techniques of expression become a challenge to the singers. Furthermore, it may even reach the limits of the singing techniques. However, these are not the ordinary choral works to expect a superb performance from. The series are recommended for those choirs that aim to set up an ambitious program. The pieces are written not only for large choirs. They are also suitable for ensembles with distinguished abilities.

Sing

Panamusica's new series "A Cappella Chorus Arrangements" introduces choral arrangements with a high level of a cappella choral music. It also includes popular music that most people are familiar with.

As the first part of the series, a cappella arrangements of six The Carpenters songs are now released. These songs were number one hits at the time. Although more than 30 years passed since the beautiful voices performed them, people still keep these melodies in their hearts. Even the younger generation knows the legendary songs.

Composer's Takatomi NOBUNAGAarrangements are outstanding. Many nuances represent the high quality of music and show the composer's respect and dedication to The Carpenters.

The pieces were originally published by Kawai as an anthology "A Capella Carpenters Selection".

Arvo Part - Tintinnabuli

Tintinnabuli was identified by Part as a compositional method in 1976, since when he has made it his own-indeed people know of no other composer who has used it. In origin it derives from the sounds which bells emit when they are struck-a confusion of fundaments and overtones. This is where Part's diatonic language comes from (bells do not deal in chromaticisms), and also where his characteristic close-note harmony comes from-as the sound of a bell retreats from its source the fundamental note blurs, becoming a chord cluster around the original pitch.
This Album is Tallis Scholars' tribute to Arvo Part in his 80th year. Tintinnabuli (from the Latin for "bell") is the compositional style created by Arvo Part which informs every work on this recording.

Farewell

This heart-felt setting was originally included in the popular "A Garland for Linda", a celebration of the life of the late Linda McCartney.
