Tres laudationes Mariae Sanctae [SSA]

The composer began composing this piece in February 2014. Since then, he spent day after day walking in the woods near his house, while pondering each word of the Latin text in his mind. He was not trying to make music. Instead, he was just listening to the birds singing and capturing the moment when the sound bursts out just as the buds sprout. No musical expression mark is written on the score as no "human" element is needed in the "pray to God". This simple score is open for interpretation. The composer hopes that it will give as much inspiration as possible. The piece is dedicated to Pope Francis.

On Our Planet [TTBB]

"On our Planet" is one of the most famous works of Ko Matsushita. Now its male choir version is available. The composer was highly impressed by the poems of great poet Shuntaro Tanikawa and used their motifs in this work. Although Yoji Inoue is a Catholic priest, his book "NAM ABBA"(have strong faith in God) contains many thoughts of such Japanese saints as Basho, Honen and Ippen-Shonin. Marriage to My Lady Poverty

This reflective setting of an evocative text by Charles Bennett uses pastoral and romantic imagery to depict the beauty of a life free from the desire for worldly possessions. The music draws on the words' dream-like character, with lilting scat rhythms and interweaving vocal lines building to a stirring climax before the piece gradually fades as the idyllic vision is enveloped in sleep. With sacred and secular resonances, Marriage to My Lady Poverty is ideal for performance in both services and concerts.

Thy Arising

This Easter anthem sets the second part of George Herbert's poem 'Easter', famously set in full by Ralph Vaughan Williams in his Five Mystical Songs. The opening section has an almost pastoral feel, with the sopranos and altos presenting a lilting melody in thirds, underpinned by a flowing organ accompaniment. The anthem becomes progressively more expansive and reflective, with rich textures and harmonies, before drawing to a profound close.

Stabat Mater

McDowall's setting of the Stabat Mater has been described as 'an outstanding work of great solemnity and poignancy' (Tempo, 2013). The work comprises seven movements in a symmetrical structure-from the impassioned choral opening, through two intense yet diverse baritone solos and contemplative plainchant chorales, to the stately finale uniting all the voices. The optimistic central movement, in a major tonality, may be performed by children's choir or a semi-chorus of sopranos and altos from the main group. A plaintive meditation on the sorrows of the Virgin Mary as she stands by the Cross, McDowall's Stabat Mater is a sophisticated modern alternative to more well-known settings, ideal for performance at non-liturgical Lenten services.
The piano reduction in the score, which can be adapted for organ, may be used for concert performance if an orchestra is not available.

Matthaus-Passion BWV244 (Mendelssohn Version)

Felix Mendelssohn can claim the credit of having ushered in the Bach-Renaissance with his arrangement and performance of the "St Matthew Passion". It was revived for the first time in the Berlin Singakademie on 11 March 1829, one hundred years after its premiere in Leipzig's Thomaskirche. A second arrangement was performed in Leipzig in 1841.

Originally only available on hire as part of the edition published by Baerenreiter in 2009, this vocal score is now available on sale. It enables both the Berlin and the later Leipzig versions to be performed.
A concordance provides information on the respective sequence of movements and their relation to the Bach Works Catalogue (BWV) and the "New Bach Edition".

Messa da Requiem

In spite of the most enthusiastic reception at the work's premiere, the famous pianist and conductor Hans von Buelow criticized Verdi's Messa da Requiem as "an opera in ecclesiastical robes". Nonetheless, or maybe precisely for this quality, the work has conquered concert podiums worldwide.

For this scholarly-critical edition, the editor has consulted no less than 16 sources, many more than were ever used for any other edition of the Requiem; some of these sources were never evaluated before and one source, a hand-written vocal score, particularly relevant to the evaluation of the "Liber scriptus", was newly discovered.

As such, this edition offers new philological and editorial decisions regarding phrasing, articulation and dynamics and succeeds in presenting practical suggestions to solve musical problems and those concerning the interpretation of this famous work.

This edition comprises a concise Critical Commentary in the score. The most important editions published in the 19th century are compared with regard to musicological questions in the work. The genesis of some misunderstandings included in the 1913 and 1964 Ricordi editions is traced. The first version of the "Liber scriptus" for chorus is included in the appendix while the later version for mezzosoprano solo is to be found in the main part of the edition.

The Bethlehem Star

This affecting carol was composed in memory of Alan Greaves, the organist from Sheffield who was murdered on his way to Midnight Mass in 2012. The text, The Bethlehem Star by Gerard Manley Hopkins, is particularly suited to the Midnight Mass service, and Chilcott's setting is both peaceful and poignant, featuring changing metres and effective imitation in the upper voice parts.

Song of The Crib

Setting a specially written text by Charles Bennett, this gentle lullaby reflects on the role of the animals and angels in the nativity, compelling us to follow their lead and create our own Christmas scene wherever we are. Chilcott's choral writing is characteristically warm and lush, with some divisi, and the singable melodies are shared between the parts.
